Clarified who the spouse or civil partner deposit applies to, and what counts as a durable relationship for unmarried partners of Gibraltarians.

Bringing your spouse or children

If you are applying for residency as an employee or self-employed person and want your spouse or civil partner to live with you, you must provide an advance deposit equal to the total social insurance contributions payable under your employment contract for the first year. This deposit does not apply to student applications.

You can be accompanied only by your spouse or civil partner, and/or your children.

The healthcare and schooling your family can access is set out in your residency.

Unmarried partners of Gibraltarians

If you are the unmarried partner of someone with Gibraltarian Status, you qualify for a residence permit where you provide evidence of a durable relationship of at least two years at the time of your application.

A durable relationship means a genuine, ongoing relationship akin to marriage. You must show evidence of an established personal relationship — a relationship based solely or mainly on remote or online contact does not qualify.

Students of the University of Gibraltar

If you are accepted for enrolment on a full-time academic course at the University of Gibraltar, you can apply for a residence permit as a student.

While you are a student, you can access the benefits of residency, including healthcare through the group practice medical scheme (GPMS). You pay a contribution of £470 a year.

Your spouse or civil partner and your children under 18 can live in Gibraltar with you while you study, if each of them pays the same contribution.
